Storytellling for a better living

I like to define myself as a storyteller.

I recently discovered Robert McKee . He is the kind of person you listen to attentively because his words have such deep meaning.

Why do we like to be told stories? Why do I like to tell stories with my camera?

“A storyteller is a poet of life” - Robert McKee

These images of an idealized life that I create, what do they teach me about life? Perhaps they help me understand my present.

"We were not taught how to live (…)" - Robert McKee

For artists, life is a clue we try to understand.

Art is my means of expression just as it helps me to know myself better and to restore a certain balance.

“No artist tolerates reality” - Nietzsche

I am not artistically attracted to reality. I stage it. I transform it to absorb it into my dreamy world, to control it.

"Why are we here? What is the meaning of life?"

Philosophy, art, science and religion have been trying to answer these age-old questions since antiquity. What is the situation today?

We can say that today philosophy is not at its best. There are fewer and fewer readers, and fewer philosophy books...

Art questions, twists in all directions, transforms and reinvents reality. Art is freedom. Until recently, I thought it was a way for me to escape reality, but after listening to Robert McKee, it is clearly the opposite. Art allows me to live more intensely.

And what about science? Every day, it contributes to increasing our knowledge of who we are. Recently, Chinese scientists discovered that in mice, alpha male characteristics are linked to genetics. The myth of Prince Charming is crumbling!

And finally, religion. Less and less people believe today, this is a fact. It seems this is no longer the space where we look for answers.

To summarize: we hardly open books, fewer and fewer people practice religion, and science is not able to give immediate answers to our questions.

In the entertainment way of life we are immersed today, art and its storytelling character seem to be the medium where the most of us try to get answers to our existential questions.

“Stories help us cope with life” - Robert McKee

Today we go to the cinema or watch films to try to understand our story and ourselves. They make us experience alternative lives by proxy.

Stories are everywhere, and not just in movies. They are also in my photographs here.
