frequently asked questions
are the prints original photographic prints?
Yes, a photographic print that is printed and held by a photographer during his or her lifetime is considered an original. All prints are made under Christèle's supervision, from her digital negatives.
what is a limited edition?
A limited edition is a limited run of artwork which is numbered and signed by the artist. The limited number of prints in an edition yields a collectible piece of art. Christèle signs and numbers all limited edition prints on the back of the print or the plate. Each limited edition comes with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. We currently offer two print sizes and several unique tintypes per image as limited editions (collodion plate - 1 to 6 unique copies; 60x40cm - 10 copies; 45x30cm - 25 copies). Prices are graded so that as the edition sells out, the price increases. Once an edition sells out, it is closed forever and will no longer be available.
what is a tintype?
Also known as melainotype or ferrotype, a tintype is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. This process developed in the mid-to-late 19th century produces a unique and a one-of-a kind image that is non replicable. Tintypes, together with daguerreotypes and ambrotypes, were the first three early photographic processes to gain widespread popularity.
